"The best Fish & Chips this side of the Atlantic. You can taste how fresh everything is. We drive 40 minutes just for breakfast here."
"Stopped in on a road trip and stayed two hours. The Sticky Toffee Pudding alone is worth the detour. Such a warm, genuine place."
"Our family's Sunday tradition. Stephen and the team treat you like you're in their own home. The acoustic nights are the cherry on top."
From Yorkshire to Indiana
Authentic British hospitality, rooted locally.
Payne's began with one simple idea: serve the honest British comfort food founder Stephen Payne grew up with in Yorkshire — made with the incredible produce grown right here in Indiana.
More than a meal — a place where the neighborhood comes together.
Local musicians, candlelight and a pint of craft ale. Our most-loved evening of the week.
Charity suppers, neighborhood meetups and family-friendly afternoons on the patio.
A rotating menu that follows the harvest — the freshest flavors, exactly when they peak.
Whether it's all-day breakfast, a Friday pint, or a special night out — we'd love to welcome you.
Stephen Payne
Founder & Head Chef, born in Yorkshire, England.
Stephen Payne grew up in Yorkshire, England, where Sunday roasts, beer-battered fish and warm puddings weren't just food — they were how a family said "you belong here."
When Stephen settled in Indiana, he missed the honest, comforting cooking of home. But he also fell in love with something new: the extraordinary produce, meats and dairy grown by Indiana's local farmers. Payne's Restaurant was born at that crossroads — authentic British recipes, made with the freshest Hoosier ingredients.
Today, Payne's is where travelers passing through, neighborhood families, and curious food lovers all find a seat at the same welcoming table.
We believe great hospitality is simple: real ingredients, recipes made with care, and a room that feels like home. That's the promise behind every plate we send out.
Authentic recipes from across the UK, from curry house favorites to proper pub classics.
Ingredients sourced from Indiana growers, picked fresh and on the plate at their peak.
